Palestinian Research Center Holds Political Seminar on Post-Ceasefire Challenges in Gaza

Ramallah, January 21, 2025 - The Palestinian Research Center organized a political seminar entitled "The Political and National Challenges of the Post-Ceasefire Phase in Gaza." The seminar was attended by members of Fatah's Central Committee, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee, the Palestinian National Council, a large number of intellectuals, researchers, heads of civil society organizations, and representatives from various research centers.

The seminar was opened by Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, member of Fatah's Central Committee and President of the Research Center's Board of Directors. He called for Gaza to be declared a disaster area, urging the mobilization of all resources and prioritizing its needs as a national emergency. He stated that the Palestinian Authority is the only entity capable of managing Gaza's affairs and restoring normalcy.

Dr. Shtayyeh added that there are several unwavering national constants that cannot be compromised: Gaza is an integral part of the Palestinian entity; any encroachment on Gaza's or Palestine's land is categorically rejected; and all forms of forced displacement are rejected. He pointed out that the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people aims at systematic destruction and the prevention of the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Rouhi Fattouh, President of the Palestinian National Council, stated that Hamas has delegated the dialogue to non-Palestinian forces, thereby excluding the PLO. He stressed the need to restore the PLO's standing within the Palestinian arena, requiring its revitalization, activation of all its institutions, and the regularization of its meetings. He added that Hamas should engage in dialogue to discuss the management of the situation in Gaza, emphasizing the need for a proactive Palestinian vision to ensure the survival of the Palestinian people, whose existence is now threatened both existentially and strategically.

Azam Al-Ahmad, a member of both the PLO Executive Committee and Fatah's Central Committee, stated that the Palestinian leadership has acted extensively since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza to stop the bloodshed and end the aggression against the Palestinian people. He affirmed the commitment to the national program and the continuation of the struggle through all available means until the end of the occupation and the removal of settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Dr. Montaser Jarar, General Manager of the Palestinian Research Center, confirmed that such events are part of the center's vision to monitor, analyze, and discuss important national issues. The center aims to facilitate serious and effective dialogues between Palestinian decision-makers and political and academic elites. These discussions aim to provide new insights and practical solutions to serve decision-makers and contribute to the development of participatory national strategies involving all segments of Palestinian society.
