The Arab League Launches Book Detailing Palestinian History

Cairo, Tuesday - The Arab League launched the book "The Palestinian Narrative: A Million Years of Civilizational History" at a ceremony at its headquarters in Cairo. The event was attended by Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, President of the Board of Directors of the Palestinian Research Center; Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki; and representatives from several Arab countries.

ublished by the Palestinian Research Center, the 1000-page book, compiled by 40 Palestinian researchers, presents a documented historical account of Palestine from the Stone Age to the present day.

Dr. Shtayyeh emphasized that the book is a first step in disseminating the Palestinian narrative based on historical and scientific facts. He announced plans to launch the book in Britain and the United States, and to translate it into English and other European languages to raise global awareness of the Palestinian cause. He stressed the importance of adopting the book as part of the curriculum in Arab schools to counter false Israeli narratives that attempt to erase Palestinian identity and promote misleading historical myths.

Dr. Shtayyeh explained that the book contains rich content, including images, inscriptions, and traditional clothing from ancient times, making it a comprehensive reference for documenting Palestinian cultural and historical identity. It also addresses ongoing Israeli violations, including the destruction of archives, looting of libraries, and theft of artifacts, all in an attempt to falsify the Palestinian historical narrative. He concluded by noting that the book is part of a larger research project led by the Palestinian Research Center aimed at comprehensively writing the history of Palestine from a multidisciplinary perspective. He emphasized that the book is a powerful tool to counter regional and international challenges facing the Palestinian cause and to strengthen Palestinian national identity.

Hossam Zaki described the book as an important encyclopedic work, particularly given Israel's attempts to distort history and impose false narratives. He emphasized that the book is a crucial step in presenting a solid Palestinian narrative based on documented evidence that demonstrates the Palestinians' connection to their land. He stressed the importance of moving beyond simply promoting the Palestinian right to land, and instead presenting historical evidence that refutes Israeli claims.

Engineer Muhand Al-Akkouk affirmed that despite decades of crimes, Israel has failed to erase Palestinian identity or uproot the Palestinian people. He added that the book, despite its brevity in a thousand pages, represents a testament to the long history of the Palestinian people on their land. He stressed that the occupation does not target only the land but seeks to destroy the Palestinian narrative and hide its evidence, from artifacts to cultural and historical landmarks, in an attempt to falsify history and erase Palestinian identity.

Dr. Montaser Jarar, General Manager of the Palestinian Research Center, highlighted the importance of documenting Palestinian history, which the occupation has attempted to erase through theft, deception, and the planting of false and fabricated narratives devoid of any facts.

Dr. Hamdan Taha, coordinator of the Palestine History project and a member of the research team (along with Dr. Iman As-Saqa, Dr. Issam Halaika, and Dr. Faiha Abdel Hadi), gave a presentation on the work to the attendees.
